EU can finance Ukrainian gas debts only under clear guarantees

LUXEMBURG, Oct 20 (PRIME) -- The E.U. can give Ukraine money to repay gas debts, but only under clear guarantees, Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek, the head of Czech Affairs Ministry, said at a meeting of E.U. foreign ministers Monday.

“The E.U. can consider the issue of providing additional funds to Ukraine, which can be used for the repayment of debt to Gazprom,” he said when asked whether the Czech Republic supports short-term credits totaling 2 billion euros, requested by Kiev.

“But any money must be provided to Ukraine only under clear guarantees of reforms implementation, fight against corruption and the fulfillment of all other conditions of the E.U. We must control the allocation of the funds,” he said.
